Tiny
Homes
DETROIT
- The
General
Motors
Foundation
(GMF) is
funding
the Cass
Community
Social
Services
Women in
Motion
(WIM)
program.
The GMF
partnership
and
support
for WIM
will
allow
women
the
opportunity
for
upward
economic
mobility
through
affordable,
supportive
housing.
Tiny
Homes
will
consist
of
building
25 tiny
houses
dedicated
for
low-income
households;
the WIM
program
is
focused
on three
of the
25
homes.
GM
funding
will
provide
support
to three
low-income
women
who are
either
formerly
homeless,
seniors,
or
students
who have
aged out
of
foster
care.
This
innovative
"rent-to-own"
model
has the
goal of
helping
women
escape
poverty
with
homeownership.
Initially,
the
women
will
rent
their
homes
for
seven
years.
At
GM, one
of our
main
focus
areas is
to
create
sustainable
solutions
that
improve
the
communities
in which
we live
and work
– and
nowhere
is that
more
true
than
here in
our
headquarters
city of
Detroit.
GM is a
proud
partner
in
helping
Detroit
in its
unprecedented
renaissance
by
supporting
organizations
that
help
improve
education,
promote
workforce
development,
stabilize
neighborhoods,
and
attract
and
retain
residents,
businesses
and
visitors
to the
city.
